Cincinnati, Ohio – Cooler, drier air is moving into the Ohio Valley as a cold front sweeps south, setting up a stretch of quieter weather before rain returns over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, conditions will remain stable through Friday before the cold front triggers showers and storms in southern portions of the basin by Saturday. Some of those storms could bring bursts of heavy rainfall, especially in parts of Kentucky, West Virginia, and southern Ohio.

While widespread river flooding is not expected, forecasters caution that localized flash flooding is possible if downpours stall. The threat is considered low but could briefly impact low-lying roadways and small creeks. Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads and remain alert for ponding water.

Farther north, cities including Columbus, Dayton, and Pittsburgh will see cooler, less humid conditions with highs dipping into the upper 70s by Sunday. Residents across the southern basin should prepare for scattered showers and possible thunderstorms through the weekend before drier weather returns early next week.

Warnings are not currently in effect, but forecasters will update guidance if flooding concerns increase.
