Residents across Wilmington and much of southwest and central Ohio should prepare for increasingly gusty winds this afternoon through tonight, with the strongest impacts expected during the early evening hours. According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, winds will strengthen through the afternoon and peak along a narrow line of showers moving west to east across the region.

The highest potential for wind gusts near or exceeding 45 miles per hour will occur this evening, particularly between 7 PM and 11 PM. During this time, heavier showers may help transport stronger winds from just above the surface down to ground level, briefly producing powerful and potentially damaging gusts. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated strong wind bursts could still cause issues.

After this line of showers passes, winds are expected to ease somewhat late this evening into the early overnight hours. However, this break will be short-lived. Gusty conditions are forecast to return during the predawn hours Friday as colder air rushes into the region behind a cold front. Winds will remain elevated into Friday morning before gradually diminishing by late morning or midday.

Impacts may include difficult travel for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and SUVs, as well as the possibility of loose outdoor items being blown around. Tree limbs could also be stressed, especially in areas that experience the strongest gusts.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations, trash cans, and other loose objects before evening. Drivers should use extra caution, especially during the peak wind window tonight when sudden gusts may occur.

While rainfall amounts are expected to remain limited, the combination of gusty winds and falling temperatures will make conditions feel colder and more unsettled heading into Friday. Stay tuned to local weather updates and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions through tonight and early Friday morning.
