Cincinnati, Ohio – A widespread winter storm is set to sweep across the Ohio Valley this weekend, bringing steady precipitation and a wintry mix to communities along and south of the Ohio River while keeping flood concerns relatively low for now.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, rain and wintry precipitation will overspread much of the region Saturday and Sunday, with the heaviest totals focused across Kentucky, southern Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Colder air near the Ohio River may allow periods of snow or mixed precipitation, particularly during heavier bands.

River forecasters say while significant rainfall is expected in the Cumberland and Kentucky River basins, river flooding is not anticipated at this time. Warmer temperatures in middle Tennessee, eastern Kentucky, and much of West Virginia should limit runoff impacts, keeping overall flood potential low despite rising water levels on some rivers.

Travel impacts may still be an issue as snow, sleet, and wet roads develop, especially in elevated terrain and near the Ohio River corridor. Drivers are urged to use caution during periods of reduced visibility and changing road conditions.

Officials recommend residents near rivers continue monitoring conditions, as additional precipitation could cause rapid water level changes. River and weather statements may be updated through the weekend as the storm system moves through the Ohio Valley.
