Cincinnati, Ohio – A stalled front draped over the Ohio Valley is expected to dump more than 5 inches of rain in some areas through the weekend, increasing the risk of flooding—especially south of the Ohio River.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely across the region, with locally higher totals possible. Minor flooding is already occurring in parts of the western Ohio Valley, and additional rainfall could worsen conditions by Saturday.

Counties south of Interstate 70—including Lawrence, Scioto, and Adams in southern Ohio—are under heightened alert, with urban runoff and full creeks contributing to flash flood concerns. The area surrounding Cincinnati and across into northern Kentucky could see the heaviest rainfall by late Friday.

Residents in low-lying areas are urged to monitor local river gauges and avoid travel on water-covered roads. Emergency managers recommend clearing storm drains, charging phones, and preparing alternate routes in case of road closures.

Rain and thunderstorm activity will remain persistent into Sunday night, with additional alerts likely if rainfall exceeds projections.
