Louisville, KY – Storms sweeping across the Ohio Valley this week are expected to bring widespread rain and rising flood concerns through Thursday, especially in eastern parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, showers and thunderstorms will continue Wednesday and Thursday, with most areas seeing 0.75 to 1.25 inches of rain. However, isolated thunderstorms could produce localized downpours of 2 to 4 inches. The heaviest rain is likely across parts of eastern Ohio, central Kentucky, and southern Indiana.

Rivers across the region—including sections of the Ohio, Wabash, and Kentucky rivers—are expected to rise to Action or Minor Flood Stage, particularly where runoff is highest. Forecast models show over a dozen monitoring points at or above flood stage potential through June 28.

Residents in low-lying areas should prepare now by clearing drains, monitoring local alerts, and avoiding flood-prone roads. Travel may be impacted on highways such as I-64, I-71, and I-75, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.

Warnings remain in effect across much of the tri-state area. Additional rainfall and updated advisories are expected by Thursday morning.
