Columbus, Ohio – Slow-moving thunderstorms are set to drench parts of the Ohio Valley through Tuesday, with the potential to drop more than 3 inches of rain in some areas and trigger minor river flooding in Indiana.
According to the Ohio River Forecast Center, widespread rainfall is expected across the region, with totals of 0.50 to 1.00 inch likely across the eastern half of the Ohio Valley. Heavier pockets of rain could exceed 1 inch in areas where storms stall.
Communities in central and eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, northern Kentucky, and southern Indiana should be alert for localized flooding, particularly near low-lying roads and smaller tributaries. The NWS warns that isolated downpours may quickly overwhelm drainage systems and cause brief flash flooding.
Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, and residents near rivers should monitor local conditions closely. Indiana may see minor river flooding on smaller streams by Tuesday evening.
This rain event comes as part of a humid summer pattern driving persistent storm development across the central U.S.
More updates and potential advisories are expected as the system progresses. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through weather.gov/ohrfc.
