Pittsburgh, Pa. – Rain moving across the Ohio Valley through Tuesday morning could push river levels higher, especially in areas hit by heavier thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, widespread rainfall totals up to 1.5 inches are expected across Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and western Pennsylvania. Localized pockets, particularly in western Pennsylvania, could exceed 2 inches where thunderstorms repeatedly track over the same areas.
Cities including Pittsburgh, Wheeling, Cincinnati, and Louisville may see steady rain at times, with brief heavier downpours reducing visibility and slowing travel on major routes like I-70, I-71, and I-76. While rivers are currently receding from recent high water, this additional rainfall may cause renewed rises, especially along smaller streams and tributaries.
Officials note that widespread flooding is not expected at this time, but localized river increases could impact low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents near waterways should monitor conditions closely and remain alert for any rapid changes.
Rain continues through Tuesday morning, with another round possible later in the week. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if rainfall totals trend higher.
