Cincinnati, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms could sweep through the Ohio Valley this afternoon and evening, bringing heavy rain, damaging winds, and the threat of localized flooding in cities like Cincinnati, Dayton, and Chillicothe.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, areas in southwest and south-central Ohio face a Slight Risk of severe weather through late Tuesday, May 20. Localized flooding is possible where storms repeatedly track over the same locations. Counties including Hamilton, Butler, and Clinton are highlighted for heightened impacts, with the most intense weather expected between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Cincinnati, Wilmington, and areas along I-71 may see brief but intense downpours leading to water ponding on roads. Residents in lower-lying areas should monitor local alerts and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Power outages are also possible if strong winds down tree limbs or lines.
This round of storms follows a wetter-than-average May for parts of the region, increasing the flood risk. Emergency officials urge residents to charge devices, secure outdoor items, and review severe weather plans.
Storms are expected to weaken overnight, but more alerts could be issued if conditions change. Stay tuned to the NWS Wilmington office for updated warnings.
