Cincinnati, OH – Scattered thunderstorms and showers are expected to persist across the Ohio Valley through Wednesday morning, prompting concerns over localized flooding and elevated river levels.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, storms moving through the region this week may drop between 0.25 to 1.25 inches of rain, with higher localized amounts. Areas along the New River basin in Virginia and North Carolina could see over 3 inches. While rivers are expected to remain within their banks, forecasters caution that heavy downpours may lead to isolated minor flooding in vulnerable low-lying areas.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) emphasized that slow river recessions continue across the region, with a few locations potentially reaching action stage by midweek due to repeated rainfall. Maps show most rivers holding at normal levels, but isolated action-stage alerts are possible.

Residents in Cincinnati, Louisville, Charleston, and other Ohio Valley cities should prepare for intermittent rainfall, potential delays on roadways, and ponding in poorly drained areas. The forecast covers through 8 a.m. EDT Wednesday, May 14.

Officials recommend checking local alerts, avoiding flooded roads, and securing outdoor items ahead of heavy showers. More updates are available via weather.gov/ohrfc.
