Cincinnati, Ohio – Rivers across the Ohio Valley are rising toward action stage this weekend after back-to-back storms dumped up to 3 inches of rain over the past 48 hours.

According to the Ohio River Forecast Center, widespread showers and thunderstorms soaked parts of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia through Saturday morning, with some of the heaviest bands centered along the southern Ohio River corridor. These totals are pushing many waterways—including the Scioto, Licking, and Muskingum Rivers—toward rapid increases in water levels.

In eastern Ohio and parts of northern Kentucky, rivers like the Little Miami and the Big Sandy are already approaching action or minor flood thresholds. Green, yellow, and orange markers on Saturday’s river status map show dozens of gauges entering flood monitoring stages, particularly near Marietta, Portsmouth, and Ashland.

Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor river gauges, avoid low-lying roads, and prepare to relocate if waters continue to rise. While drier conditions are expected Sunday into early next week, runoff from recent rains will continue to elevate river levels through the weekend.

Flood outlooks remain in effect for parts of the region, and additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
