Cincinnati, Ohio – A strong late-August cold front is delivering an early taste of fall across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, with temperatures plunging into the 40s by Wednesday morning. Some cities may even set new daily record lows as the unusual chill grips the region.

According to the National Weather Service, cool high pressure will settle in behind the front, keeping low temperatures in the 40s and lower 50s through Thursday morning. The coolest readings are expected in parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia, with cities such as Cincinnati, Louisville, and Nashville dropping into the upper 40s before sunrise.

The cooler air will contrast sharply with the season’s recent heat, and while afternoons will still be comfortable in the 70s and low 80s, residents are advised to prepare for crisp mornings. NWS officials recommend layering clothing for early commutes, and outdoor workers should plan for temperatures 15–20 degrees below late-August averages.

The chill is not expected to last long, with milder overnight lows returning by late week. However, meteorologists note this system could signal the first of several early fall air masses to sweep into the region in the coming weeks.
