Cincinnati, Ohio – Widespread rainfall is expected across the Ohio Valley over the next two days, with some northern-area rivers forecast to rise toward action stage, according to the National Weather Service.

The Ohio River Forecast Center reports that precipitation will affect most of the Ohio River and Lake Erie drainage basins through Tuesday morning, with the highest rainfall totals expected in northern portions of the region. Forecast amounts generally range from around 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher totals possible.

Hydrologists said that while widespread flooding is not expected, several northern-area rivers are forecast to reach action stage, indicating elevated water levels that require close monitoring. The Weather Service noted that minor flooding cannot be ruled out, depending on where heavier rainfall occurs.

Current river forecasts show most locations remaining below flood stage, though continued rainfall could lead to noticeable rises on streams and rivers, especially in areas that receive repeated rounds of rain.

The OHRFC emphasized that conditions will continue to be monitored closely as the rainfall event unfolds. Residents living near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas are encouraged to stay informed and remain aware of changing water levels.

For commuters, workers, and residents across the Ohio Valley, periods of rain may impact travel conditions, particularly in areas prone to ponding or where rivers respond quickly to rainfall.

Additional hydrologic updates will be issued by the National Weather Service if river forecasts or impacts change.
