Louisville, KY – Residents across the Ohio Valley may get another rare chance to see the Northern Lights tonight, as the powerful solar storm that illuminated skies across the U.S. earlier this week remains active. The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center reports that a G3–G4-level geomagnetic storm continues, pushing auroral visibility deep into the central and eastern United States — including Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

According to local National Weather Service offices, skies will remain mostly clear this evening, with the best viewing conditions expected from southern Indiana through central Ohio. The best window to spot the Aurora Borealis will be after sunset through midnight, facing north and away from bright city lights.

Light winds, mild temperatures, and dry air will make for comfortable viewing conditions. Lows tonight will dip into the 40s and low 50s, with highs Friday climbing into the upper 60s and 70s under continued sunshine.

The same solar activity that produced brilliant auroras from Texas to Maine earlier this week continues to energize the atmosphere, giving the Ohio Valley another shot at the glowing spectacle.

If skies remain clear, tonight could bring one of the most vivid Northern Lights displays the Ohio Valley has seen in years — a rare opportunity for residents from Cincinnati to Columbus to Louisville to look north and see a piece of the Arctic sky.
