Cincinnati, Ohio – Storms will continue hammering the Ohio Valley through the weekend, with the potential for flash flooding especially high from southern Ohio into Kentucky and West Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, the risk for excessive rainfall will remain elevated through at least Friday night, particularly south of the Ohio River. Counties from Cincinnati to Charleston are under threat, with some areas projected to receive up to 5 inches of rain by July 24.

The heaviest impacts are expected along major waterways and low-lying roads, including stretches of I-64 and U.S. Route 52. Emergency officials in Scioto, Lawrence, and Gallia counties are urging residents to avoid flooded roadways and monitor alerts. Rain-saturated soil also raises the risk of localized landslides and power outages, especially in hilly and rural terrain.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, clean out drains, and keep mobile devices charged in case of flash flood warnings. This prolonged storm pattern follows a wetter-than-average July and adds pressure to already swollen rivers and streams across the Ohio River Basin.

Warnings remain in effect through Friday, with additional advisories likely into early next week.
