Cincinnati, OH – The Ohio Valley is now under a broad weather alert as a string of Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early weather guidance. The pattern could disrupt travel across Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, and northern Tennessee.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strengthening northwest-flow pattern will move multiple clipper disturbances from the Upper Midwest into the Ohio Valley throughout next week. These fast-moving systems—collectively referred to as the “Clipper Express”—often produce sudden snow showers, bursts of accumulation, and sharp temperature drops.

The first disturbance is projected to arrive Saturday night, followed by additional waves in 48-hour intervals. Although snowfall totals for each clipper remain uncertain, the NWS warns that even brief, localized bursts may cause slick roads during peak travel times across Cincinnati, Louisville, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Charleston, WV.

Forecasters note that the exact track of each clipper will determine snowfall intensity and location. Higher terrain in eastern Kentucky and West Virginia may see enhanced snowfall, while lower elevations in Indiana and Ohio could experience quick but impactful snow showers.

Major travel corridors—including I-71, I-75, I-64, I-65, and I-70—may see sudden drops in visibility and fast-developing slick spots as each system moves through.

The NWS encourages residents across the Ohio Valley to monitor frequent forecast updates as Alberta Clippers often intensify and shift track with little notice during the December 7–13 window.
