Louisville, Kentucky – Heavy rain is expected to drench parts of the Ohio Valley through Tuesday, bringing the risk of rising rivers and localized flooding as a slow-moving storm system lingers across the region.
According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, a persistent stretch of scattered storms will continue into early next week. Most areas are projected to receive 0.5 to 2 inches of rain, but eastern sections—including parts of Ohio, West Virginia, and eastern Kentucky—could see rainfall totals exceeding 3 inches.
Communities along the Ohio River and its tributaries may experience river rises to Action Stage, with isolated areas reaching Minor Flood Stage. Low-lying roads and flood-prone areas, particularly near Charleston, Huntington, and Portsmouth, should be monitored closely for standing water. Motorists are advised to avoid flooded roadways and check for detours as runoff increases.
Emergency managers in Kentucky and Ohio are urging residents to prepare for potential power outages and to secure outdoor belongings. If your area is flood-prone, consider moving valuables off the floor and reviewing evacuation routes.
Rain and storms are expected to persist across the region through at least Tuesday morning. Additional flood watches may be issued as conditions evolve.
