Pittsburgh, PA – Strong thunderstorms are moving across eastern Ohio toward western Pennsylvania this evening, bringing the risk of damaging winds and travel delays.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, storms were approaching areas near and west of Interstate 77 late Sunday afternoon. Forecasters warn that wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour are possible with these storms, with some locations potentially seeing even higher gusts.

The system is expected to continue pushing eastward into the Ohio Valley, impacting communities including New Philadelphia, Cambridge, and Zanesville before tracking toward Wheeling and the Pittsburgh metro area. Officials caution that loose outdoor objects could become hazards and that drivers, particularly on elevated highways and bridges, should use extra caution.

While widespread severe damage is not anticipated, the NWS noted that isolated stronger cells could still produce locally hazardous conditions. The storms are expected to move through the region over the next several hours, with the greatest risk of high winds during the late afternoon and early evening commute.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, secure outdoor items, and be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions.
