Charleston, WV – Steady rain continues to drench parts of the Ohio Valley Friday, with some of the heaviest totals expected in eastern Kentucky and across most of West Virginia through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service’s Ohio River Forecast Center, rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are likely in these areas, with lingering showers into early Saturday especially across the southern and eastern portions of the valley. While river levels are expected to rise in response, no flooding is currently forecast.

Cities such as Huntington, Charleston, and Pikeville may experience localized ponding on roads, especially where drainage is poor. The rainfall is expected to remain within riverbanks, but minor travel disruptions and slow-moving traffic are possible during peak hours.

Residents are advised to limit non-essential travel, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Make sure gutters and storm drains are clear, and allow extra time for driving.

Though no official flood warnings have been issued, continued rain could lead to saturated soils and fast-changing conditions. Updates from the NWS and local emergency managers will be issued as needed through Saturday.
