Columbus, OH – The National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center reports that rain is expected to return to the Ohio Valley this weekend as a cold front and low-pressure system move through the region.

According to the forecast, precipitation totals between 0.25 and 1 inch are likely through Sunday morning, with locally higher amounts possible in areas that experience brief thunderstorms. The rain will provide some short-term relief after weeks of below-normal precipitation across much of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Despite the incoming rainfall, the 30-day precipitation totals remain well below average across the Ohio River and Lake Erie drainage basins, where many areas have recorded only 50–70% of normal rainfall. The NWS notes that no river flooding is currently forecast, though the rain could help modestly improve soil moisture and stream levels.

Forecasters encourage residents to monitor local weather updates as the front moves through and to prepare for periods of wet roads and slower travel Saturday into Sunday morning.
