Nashville, TN – Severe rainfall has drenched the Ohio Valley and Mid-South over the past two days, causing flash flooding concerns and widespread water hazards. As the storm system persists, experts warn that catastrophic flooding is expected to intensify this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in College Park, MD, excessive rainfall continues across eastern Oklahoma, northeastern Texas, and into the Mid-Mississippi and Ohio Valleys. These regions, under both flood watches and warnings, are bracing for more heavy rain, potentially totaling up to 15 inches in some areas.
Rainfall amounts already recorded include Lewisburg, KY, with nearly 9 inches, and Hot Springs Village, AR, which saw more than 5 inches. With more rain expected, flash flood warnings remain in effect, particularly in parts of northern Mississippi and southern Kentucky. Emergency alerts are urging residents to stay cautious as river levels rise, threatening to reach dangerous heights.
The NWS has also issued warnings for significant river flooding across the Ozarks, Middle Mississippi Valley, and Ohio Valley, predicting ongoing severe weather into April 6. As the storm system continues to develop, travelers are advised to monitor weather updates closely and avoid travel in affected areas.
