Columbus, Ohio – Ohioans are bracing for sweltering conditions through at least Tuesday as feels-like temperatures soar into the low 100s across much of the state, prompting a heat advisory and urgent health warnings.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, heat index values will exceed 100°F in cities including Columbus, Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Dayton, with minimal overnight relief as lows remain in the mid-70s. The advisory is in effect through Tuesday night, with peak heat danger between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily.
In Dayton, the heat index could reach 105°F by Monday afternoon. Columbus and Cincinnati may see similar numbers, while Portsmouth and Maysville hover near 100°F through Wednesday. Bellefontaine, Celina, and Newark will also experience multiple days of excessive heat risk.
The prolonged stretch of high humidity and heat increases the likelihood of heat-related illnesses—especially for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. Residents are urged to stay indoors, drink plenty of water, and limit strenuous activity.
This marks one of the most intense early-summer heat events for the region in recent years. More advisories may follow if conditions worsen or extend into late week.
