A Wind Advisory is in effect today for Wilmington and much of the Ohio Valley, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for potential power outages. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, remains active from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. today.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected through early afternoon, some of which could be strong. New rainfall amounts will range from a quarter to half an inch. Breezy conditions will persist into Sunday night as winds taper slightly, but gusts may still peak at 41 mph.
Looking ahead, Monday will bring calmer conditions with sunny skies and a high near 50 degrees. However, rain is likely Tuesday, followed by a chance of snow on New Year’s Day. While snow accumulation is expected to remain minimal, the combination of wet roads and freezing temperatures could create hazardous travel conditions.
By midweek, colder air will settle in, with highs in the mid-30s and overnight lows plunging into the mid-20s. The chance of snow returns Thursday, with partly sunny skies expected to round out the week on Friday.
Travelers and residents should monitor local forecasts and use caution on roadways, especially today and on New Year’s Day.
