Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories for much of western and southern West Virginia, including the Ohio River Valley and Coalfields, from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.
Forecasters expect temperatures to drop as low as 31°F, leading to widespread frost and freezing conditions by early morning. Areas most at risk include rural and low-lying locations around Huntington, Charleston, and Ripley, where the coldest readings are expected.
Officials warn that unprotected crops and sensitive vegetation may be killed, and outdoor plumbing could be damaged if not properly insulated. Residents are advised to bring potted plants indoors and cover garden vegetation before midnight.
The rest of Thursday will remain clear and calm with mild afternoon highs, setting up ideal conditions for a sharp temperature drop overnight. Slightly warmer weather is expected by Saturday as sunshine returns.
