CLEVELAND, Ohio — Some people enjoy turkey comas and football, others prefer a Thanksgiving Day run — and some enjoy all of the above. Whatever the tradition, Cleveland’s annual Turkey Trot returns this year for its 44th anniversary.
The Viking Public House and the Cleveland State University Recreation Center are teaming up to organize this year’s event. The race includes a charity program that invites local organizations to raise funds for their causes.
Participants and visitors can also donate nonperishable items. Requested donations include underwear, socks, canned food, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, and deodorant. All items will be given to St. Augustine Church.
Runners can choose from three race options: a 5-mile, 5K or 1-mile course. The Turkey Trot runs from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Participants — and their furry friends — are encouraged to take part in a costume contest. Winners will receive prizes and have their photos featured on the event’s website.
For those who can’t attend in person, a virtual Turkey Trot option is available. Registration for the virtual race is available online, and participants have until Dec. 3 to submit their run or walk. Virtual packets will be mailed after Oct. 31.
Entry fees range from $20 to $50 and can be paid online or at the event. Admission includes a race T-shirt, finisher medal, searchable race photos, post-race refreshments and more.
