Ravenna, OH – A Detroit man was arrested in Portage County after deputies reportedly uncovered a large amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Interstate 80.
According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the stop happened Wednesday when deputies with the Portage Aggressive Crime Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) Unit pulled over a 2016 Chrysler 200 for minor traffic violations. Deputies identified the driver as 26-year-old Jaylen Davis of Detroit.
Deputies said they noticed criminal indicators during the stop and deployed a K-9 unit, which allegedly alerted to the odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a vacuum-sealed package containing about 223 grams of methamphetamine, the sheriff’s office said.
Davis was immediately taken into custody and is facing charges of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, a first-degree felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, also a first-degree felony.
Sheriff Bruce D. Zuchowski commended the deputies for their work, noting that removing drugs from the highway prevents them from reaching local neighborhoods and families. He said the arrest highlights the importance of interdiction efforts by the P.A.C.E. Unit in keeping Portage County safe.
The sheriff’s office said the case remains under investigation.
