Warren, OH – Drivers in Trumbull County should prepare for significant traffic changes starting Friday, September 26, as road crews enter the final phase of the Howland Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) construction.

According to the Howland Township Police Department, both directions of State Route 46 at State Route 82 will be closed under the bridge for approximately two weeks. Detours will be in place during this period, with traffic redirected through nearby exits.

Southbound SR46 traffic will be routed to SR82 westbound, then to Elm Road, and back to SR82 eastbound before rejoining SR46. Northbound SR46 traffic will be detoured to SR82 eastbound, exit at State Route 193, then back to SR82 westbound before returning to SR46.

In addition to the full closure, drivers should also anticipate daily lane closures on SR46 between East Market Street and Howland Springs Road. Crews will be resurfacing and applying new striping in the construction zone. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic.

Officials urge motorists to allow extra travel time, use caution in the area, and consider alternate routes to avoid congestion.

The $32 million Howland DDI project, which began in 2023, is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at one of the region’s busiest interchanges.
