Marysville, OH – A two-vehicle collision on State Route 31 left one person dead and another seriously injured Saturday morning in Union County.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 6:34 a.m. to the crash near Miller Road. Emergency crews from multiple agencies, including the Northern Union County Fire and EMS District, Northwestern Joint Fire District, and Marysville Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Authorities said a 2023 Jeep Renegade traveling northbound crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2009 Honda Civic. The Jeep caught fire following the impact, but firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze.
The driver of the Jeep sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital before being flown by MedFlight to a Columbus-area trauma center. The driver of the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. The Union County Coroner’s Office responded and is assisting with the investigation.
Investigators said it is not yet known if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The Union County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Multi-County Crash Investigation Team and Ohio State Highway Patrol, is continuing to investigate.
The sheriff’s office said State Route 31 in the area was temporarily closed as crews worked the scene and cleared debris.
