Wooster, Ohio – A brief tornado touchdown in northern Wayne County Monday evening snapped trees, damaged property, and downed power lines, according to the National Weather Service’s Cleveland office.
According to NWS Cleveland and the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency, an EF-0 tornado with estimated peak winds of 75 mph touched down at 6:58 p.m. along Fox Lake Road, between Canaan Center Road and Route 3. The twister traveled nearly three-quarters of a mile before lifting by 7:00 p.m., with a maximum width of 25 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The tornado uprooted a tree onto a mobile home, twisted treetops, and caused large limbs to fall, especially east of Route 3. Crews worked through the evening to clear debris and restore power in the Hermansville area. Local drivers faced temporary closures, and residents were urged to stay clear of downed power lines while utility repairs continued.
This is the first confirmed tornado in Wayne County for summer 2025, with minor damage compared to the June 2022 event. NWS officials urge residents to remain weather-aware and review severe storm safety plans, including shelter locations and backup charging for mobile devices.
Additional advisories are not expected overnight, but NWS Cleveland will provide updates if further severe weather develops.
