Wilmington, Ohio – Oppressive heat continues to grip southern Ohio as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with heat indices hitting 104° in some areas. But by Thursday afternoon, storms are expected to sweep into Wilmington, bringing much-needed relief and a new set of risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, isolated thunderstorms may begin as early as 2 p.m. Thursday, with the strongest showers likely between 2 and 5 p.m. Gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning could affect the evening commute, especially along I-71 and US-68.

Residents should limit outdoor activities, drink fluids, and check on elderly neighbors. Temperatures will still hit the mid-90s Thursday before dropping slightly into the weekend. With saturated air and poor overnight cooling, health risks from heat remain high through Sunday.

Showers may persist into Thursday night, with another round likely Friday before tapering off. Rain chances continue into Saturday morning, then gradually improve by Sunday, offering a more manageable high near 89°.

WHAT’S NEXT: Storm chances remain elevated through Monday night, but cooler conditions could follow heading into July.
