Columbus, Ohio – Strong showers and thunderstorms are expected across much of central and southern Ohio today as a weak cold front slides through the region, bringing the potential for locally heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service warns the heaviest downpours are likely along and south of Interstate 71, where street flooding could develop in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, rain chances will remain high—generally between 70% and 84%—from Columbus south to Cincinnati and east toward Logan through late Wednesday evening. The front will also knock temperatures down several degrees from recent highs, keeping most locations in the upper 80s instead of the low to mid-90s.

Motorists on I-71, I-70, and U.S. 35 should be prepared for reduced visibility and ponding water, especially during the evening commute. Residents are urged to clear storm drains, avoid driving through flooded roads, and keep electronic devices charged in case of power outages.

Showers are expected to taper by early Thursday, but unsettled weather could return later in the week.
