Columbus, OH – Ohio residents will participate in a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 19, at 9:50 a.m., as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week 2025.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Cleveland, the drill serves as an opportunity for Ohioans to practice their emergency sheltering plans in preparation for severe weather. A test tornado warning will be broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio, local news stations, and outdoor warning sirens where available.
Schools, businesses, and households are encouraged to take part by reviewing emergency plans and identifying safe shelter locations. Officials stress that basements, interior rooms with no windows, and storm shelters are the safest places during a tornado.
Ohio is no stranger to tornadoes, with an average of 20 twisters per year, making preparedness essential. Residents should also ensure their weather alert systems are functional and have an emergency kit ready.
