Dayton, Ohio – Strong storms are set to move into parts of Ohio Tuesday afternoon, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail to cities including Dayton and Columbus.

According to the National Weather Service Wilmington office, a cold front will trigger storms mainly Tuesday afternoon and evening. A Level 3 severe weather risk has been issued for much of central and southern Ohio, including Montgomery, Franklin, Greene, and Warren counties. The main threats include damaging straight-line winds and large hail, with an isolated tornado not ruled out.

Cities such as Dayton, Springfield, and Wilmington could experience peak impacts between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday. Drivers along I-70 and I-71 should expect hazardous conditions, with localized heavy rainfall making travel difficult. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, monitor trusted news sources, and have multiple ways to receive alerts.

This system marks one of the most significant severe weather threats for Ohio so far this spring, similar to the April 2021 outbreak that caused widespread wind damage. Warnings remain possible through late Tuesday night, and additional advisories could be issued as the storm system develops.
