Cleveland, Ohio – Strong to severe thunderstorms could slam Northeast Ohio by late Tuesday afternoon, bringing dangerous winds, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a potent cold front moving through the region will spark thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Tuesday, with the greatest risks concentrated in Akron, Cleveland, and Youngstown. A Level 3 Enhanced Risk has been issued for much of Northeast Ohio, where wind gusts could exceed 70 mph. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially during the evening commute.

Cities like Akron, Canton, and Youngstown are expected to see the strongest impacts between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., while Cleveland could experience earlier development closer to 3 p.m. along I-71 and I-76 corridors. Morning cloud cover could reduce storm strength, but residents should still prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Travel disruptions, power outages, and property damage are concerns if severe storms materialize.

Residents should monitor weather alerts, charge electronic devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak storm window. This marks one of the more significant severe weather setups for Northeast Ohio so far this spring.

Additional watches or warnings could be issued throughout the day Tuesday as the storm system approaches.
