Cleveland, Ohio – Quarter-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts are threatening parts of northeastern Ohio early Friday as a fast-moving severe thunderstorm pushes through Trumbull, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the warning remains in effect until 5:30 a.m. for areas including Orwell, Andover, Kinsman, and Montville. Radar tracked the storm near Orwell at 4:55 a.m., moving east at 35 mph.
Wind damage to trees and power lines is possible, with scattered outages likely in rural communities. Drivers on rural roads near Cherry Valley and Rock Creek should watch for fallen limbs and limited visibility. The storm is part of a larger system sweeping through the Great Lakes with strong winds and isolated hail pockets.
Residents are urged to take shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor. Those in mobile homes should move to a sturdier structure until the warning expires. If outdoors, avoid open fields and tall trees.
Conditions may remain unstable through sunrise. Further watches or warnings may be issued if storms redevelop.
