Ohio River Flooding in Pittsburgh Through 8 PM With Riverwalk Impact

Pennsylvania wakes up to bright sunshine in Pittsburgh, but the Ohio River is still running high and spilling into low-lying areas. By mid-morning, water covers parts of the North Shore Riverwalk and edges toward parking areas near the stadiums.

A Flood Advisory remains in effect for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh until 8 p.m. . According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the river stood at 18.5 feet around midnight. Minor flooding begins at 18 feet, and the river is expected to crest near 18.6 feet later this morning .

At 19 feet, water reaches the North Shore Riverwalk.

Drivers should avoid flooded access roads near the river and never attempt to cross water-covered pavement. Pedestrians should use caution along the Monongahela Wharf and riverfront trails.

Air temperatures sit near 26 degrees early, with highs climbing to 46 under mostly sunny skies. Despite the chilly March start, warmer air builds quickly. Sunday reaches 60 degrees, and Monday climbs to 66 with a slight rain chance after 2 p.m.

Rain chances increase Monday night into Tuesday, when highs approach 78. Showers become more likely Wednesday, with an 80 percent chance of rain and highs near 69. Additional rainfall could slow the river’s fall later this week.
