Louisville, KY – The flood crest on the Ohio River continues to slowly make its way downstream, with the crest now reaching the Cannellton Dam, located west of Louisville. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that major to moderate flooding is still impacting parts of southern Illinois, southern Indiana, and western Kentucky.
The Ohio River’s water levels have now surpassed the 50-foot mark at the Cannellton Lock and Dam. Despite the current conditions, the forecasted rainfall in the coming days is not expected to cause any significant new flooding. However, it may lead to smaller rises in water levels, potentially delaying the recession of river levels across the region.
Flood stages at the dam are set at 42 feet, but the river continues to surpass this threshold as it makes its way downstream. The NWS also notes that the rain forecasted for the area will likely lead to some delayed receding of floodwaters but will not be enough to trigger further major flooding events.
The situation remains fluid, and those in flood-prone areas are urged to stay alert and monitor local advisories. As of 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, the latest river observation shows a water level of 50.99 feet at the Cannellton Dam, still above flood stage but gradually lowering.
