Louisville, KY – The Ohio River Valley is experiencing significant weather events today, with a Heat Advisory and Flood Watch in effect. Temperatures are anticipated to climb into the 90s, with heat indices reaching 100-105 degrees. These conditions pose serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Louisville, the Heat Advisory is in effect until 9 PM EDT. The NWS advises residents to take necessary precautions, such as staying indoors, staying hydrated, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities. This advisory affects southern Indiana and central Kentucky, where high temperatures combined with dew points in the 70s will create oppressive heat conditions.
In addition to the heat, the NWS has issued a Flood Watch starting at 8 PM EDT through Wednesday at 2 PM EDT. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front, bringing heavy rainfall particularly near and north of the Ohio River. Localized flooding is possible, with small creeks and streams potentially rising rapidly.
Wednesday will see a slight reprieve with temperatures dropping to the low 80s, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist. By Thursday, lingering showers are expected, especially near Lake Cumberland, with temperatures ranging from 78-83 degrees.
