Columbus, Ohio – Rain and a potential rain-snow mix could impact Ohio Feb. 18-22, with northern counties facing the highest winter risk.

According to the National Weather Service 6-10 Day Outlook issued Thursday, Feb. 12, above-normal precipitation is favored across Ohio during the Feb. 18-22 period. Northern Ohio, including Cleveland, Toledo and Akron, may see periods of snow or a rain and snow mix, especially if temperatures fluctuate near freezing.

Localized sleet is possible in transition zones where warmer surface air meets colder air aloft. While widespread heavy snowfall is not currently projected for Ohio, minor accumulations cannot be ruled out in counties closer to Lake Erie.

Central Ohio, including Columbus, may see primarily rain with brief mixing during overnight or early morning hours. Southern Ohio, including Cincinnati and Portsmouth, is expected to see mostly rain.

The broader weather pattern supports heavier snowfall potential across Minnesota and Wisconsin, while mixed precipitation extends across Michigan, northern Indiana and northern Pennsylvania.

Temperatures are forecast to trend above normal across much of the eastern United States, increasing the likelihood of changing precipitation types across northern Ohio.

For commuters and students returning after President’s Day week, fluctuating precipitation types could create slick travel conditions during early morning hours, particularly along Interstate 75 and Interstate 90 corridors.

The National Weather Service emphasizes that 6-10 day outlooks reflect probability trends rather than exact storm totals. Residents should monitor updated forecasts for refined timing and accumulation details.
