Athens, OH – Deputies across Athens County spent Tuesday responding to a mix of arrests, welfare checks, harassment complaints, and community calls as part of the December 2 service log.

According to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, the day began with deputies responding to Lexington Avenue in Chauncey after a third-party reported a dispute. The incident was determined to involve an unruly juvenile who later met the criteria for a mental-health evaluation and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Deputies also responded to East Fourth Street in The Plains for a harassment complaint, which remains under investigation. A Nelsonville resident later filed an identity-theft report at the sheriff’s office.

On Long Run Road in Athens, deputies were called to investigate an abandoned vehicle that had reportedly sat on the property for over a year. The vehicle was tagged for removal.

Deputies later executed a warrant arrest at the Kimberly Meadows apartments in Nelsonville, taking John Musser into custody for several misdemeanor offenses, including menacing by stalking and criminal trespassing. Musser was transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Several welfare checks were also conducted throughout The Plains after residents reported concerns for individuals. All subjects contacted were determined to be safe.

Another arrest occurred on Connett Road when deputies located a male with an active warrant. The man, identified by deputies as Robert Maffin, was taken into custody without incident.

Additional calls included a patrol of South Plains Road for suspicious activity, an injured deer on Carpenter Road in Albany, and a well-being check involving a woman needing medical attention on North Clinton Street. Emergency crews assisted the woman at the scene.
