Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and northern West Virginia are being urged to prepare for hazardous winter conditions as a Winter Storm Warning takes effect from 1 p.m. Saturday through 1 p.m. Sunday, with up to 8 inches of snow expected in parts of the tri-state area.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the storm will impact large portions of Belmont, Noble, Monroe, and Washington counties in Ohio, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland, and Fayette counties in Pennsylvania, and northern and panhandle regions of West Virginia, including Monongalia, Preston, Tucker, Marion, Marshall, and Wetzel counties.

Forecasters say 5 to 8 inches of heavy snow is likely, with localized higher totals possible, especially in elevated terrain such as the Laurel Highlands, Canaan Valley, and eastern ridges of West Virginia. Snow is expected to intensify Saturday afternoon and continue overnight into Sunday morning.

The storm is expected to create dangerous travel conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, hills, and untreated secondary roads. Officials warn that travel could become very difficult, with sudden reductions in visibility during heavier snow bands.

The National Weather Service strongly advises residents to delay all non-essential travel. Those who must drive are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations. Residents are also encouraged to dress in layers and limit time outdoors to reduce the risk of frostbite or hypothermia.

Snow and ice reports can be shared directly with the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office to help improve real-time forecasting across the region.
