Pittsburgh, PA – Scattered snow showers will continue across far eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and portions of northern West Virginia tonight, potentially leading to icy spots on roadways despite light snowfall amounts, according to multiple Special Weather Statements issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh.

The snow is expected to taper off around midnight, but forecasters warn that melting snow on road surfaces combined with rapidly falling temperatures will allow untreated pavement to freeze quickly. While accumulations are likely to remain minor, even a thin glaze of ice can create hazardous travel conditions—particularly in areas shaded from the sun or where snowfall briefly intensified earlier this evening.

NWS highlights that bridges, overpasses, and entrance/exit ramps are typically the first to ice over due to their elevated structure and exposure to cold air. Drivers traveling tonight across counties including Lawrence, Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland, Clarion, Butler, Armstrong, and Indiana should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions.

The advisory also extends into parts of eastern Ohio—such as Columbiana, Tuscarawas, Harrison, Jefferson, and Belmont counties—as well as the northern mountains of West Virginia, including Preston and Tucker counties.

Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed, allow extra braking distance, and remain alert for patches of black ice that may be difficult to see. Conditions may vary significantly from one location to the next, especially on rural roads and higher elevations where temperatures fall fastest.

Forecasters expect improvement toward Saturday morning, but isolated slick spots may linger before sunrise.
