Pittsburgh, Pa. – Scorching heat and oppressive humidity are gripping the tri-state region, with heat index values expected to reach 100°F through Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for parts of eastern Ohio, southwestern Pennsylvania, and the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Impacted areas include Pittsburgh, Zanesville, Morgantown, Wheeling, and dozens of surrounding communities.

Cities like New Castle, Uniontown, and St. Clairsville are already feeling the brunt of the heat. Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activity during the afternoon hours, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and check on elderly neighbors and vulnerable individuals.

Heat illnesses can develop quickly under these conditions. Symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or rapid heartbeat may signal heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Wear lightweight clothing, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor exposure, especially for children and pets.

This marks one of the region’s hottest stretches so far in 2025, with elevated heat risks returning as early as Sunday.

The advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday. Additional warnings may be issued if high temperatures persist into the weekend.
