Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A developing line of storms could turn severe as early as 1 p.m. Friday, with the greatest tornado risk building into the evening hours south of Interstate 80.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, two rounds of storms are expected Friday, with the first developing between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. ahead of a cold front, followed by a stronger line from 6 p.m. through midnight. Areas south of I-80, including Pittsburgh, Washington, Uniontown, and Morgantown, face the highest risk for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

Wind gusts in stronger storms could exceed 60 mph, with hail large enough to damage vehicles. While tornado potential remains limited, conditions support brief spin-ups, especially during the evening surge as the front pushes east.

Key travel routes including I-79, I-70, and I-76 may see rapidly changing conditions, including heavy rain and reduced visibility during peak commute hours and into the night.

Residents should have multiple ways to receive warnings, charge devices ahead of storms, and be ready to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued. The severe threat will taper after midnight as the front exits, but additional updates are likely Friday.
