Ohio wakes up under a pale winter sun that offers little warmth. Lake Erie steams faintly, snow squeaks under boots, and the cold presses in hard enough to sting exposed skin within minutes.
Ohio remains under a Cold Weather Advisory across much of the north and northeast. According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, wind chills have dropped to between 10 and 22 degrees below zero, with the coldest conditions lingering through late morning. The advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m., covering Cleveland and much of northern Ohio, along with parts of northwest Pennsylvania.
In Cleveland, temperatures sit near 8 degrees, but light winds push wind chills well below zero. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Drivers should use caution along I-90, I-71, and the Shoreway, where snow showers and refreezing moisture can create slick patches, especially on bridges and ramps.
Light snow showers remain possible through the day, adding minor accumulations but lowering visibility at times. Any snow that melts during brief sunny breaks can refreeze quickly after sunset. Flash freezing continues to be a top concern for evening travel.
Cold conditions persist into Sunday night, with lows near 3 degrees and wind chills again dropping below zero. Sunday brings some sunshine, but temperatures struggle to climb out of the teens. Monday offers a slight rebound, with highs nearing the upper 20s and another chance for scattered snow showers.
Looking ahead into the first full week of February, winter stays firmly in control. Temperatures remain below seasonal averages, and periodic snow chances return midweek as colder air continues to flow across the Great Lakes. Lake-effect snow remains possible whenever winds align.
This cold snap is not letting go quickly. How did the cold feel when you stepped outside this morning?
