Ohio flags are stretched tight along the Lake Erie shoreline as powerful southwest winds sweep into Cleveland late this morning. The lake looks choppy and gray, and drivers on elevated bridges are already feeling the shove.
Travel is becoming difficult on exposed roads.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. this evening. According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will gust as high as 50 mph across Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, and surrounding counties.
High-profile vehicles on I-90, I-71, and the Shoreway face the greatest risk of sudden crosswinds. Tree limbs could snap. Isolated power outages are possible if gusts peak near 50 mph.
Temperatures climb toward 54 degrees today before cooler air filters in tonight. A few spotty showers may brush the area, but rainfall amounts stay light. Winds ease after sunset as readings fall into the low 30s.
Saturday turns mostly cloudy with a high near 40 and a slight chance of rain or snow during the afternoon. By Sunday, snow showers become more likely, with highs near 37 and new accumulation under one inch possible. Snow showers likely continue into Sunday night and Monday as highs settle in the mid-30s.
This is prime February territory for flash freezing. Wet pavement can refreeze quickly once temperatures dip below freezing.
By midweek, temperatures rebound into the 40s. Longer-range signals into the 6–10 day period suggest above-normal readings and gradual early spring warmth.
Five Day Outlook for Cleveland:
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, high 40.
Sunday: Snow showers, high 37.
Monday: Snow showers likely, high 34.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, high 33.
Wednesday: Chance of rain and snow, high 44.
