Ohio’s Lake Erie shoreline looks quiet now, but bands of lake-enhanced snow are lining up west of Cleveland and could sweep in by Sunday morning. The air feels damp and raw, and visibility may drop quickly once steadier snow develops.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, snow becomes likely after 5 a.m. Sunday, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation through Sunday night. Highs reach near 37 degrees Sunday before falling to 27 degrees by evening. New accumulation of less than 1 inch is expected during the day, with 1 to 2 inches possible Sunday night.

By Monday, snow continues with highs near 32 degrees and northwest winds between 17 and 20 mph. Gusts will create blowing and drifting snow, especially along I-90, I-71 and the Shoreway. Reduced visibility could impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Drivers in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties should plan extra time and increase following distance. Even light snow can coat bridges and overpasses first. Side streets may turn slushy, then icy after sunset.

Monday night drops to around 18 degrees. Any melting during daylight hours could refreeze quickly, increasing the risk of flash freezing on untreated pavement.

Snow chances linger into Tuesday before temperatures rebound into the low 40s by Wednesday with a rain-snow mix possible. Longer-range outlooks suggest a gradual warming trend heading into late next week, offering a break from winter’s grip.
