Ohio – Sunshine is reflecting off Lake Erie this morning, giving Cleveland a brief taste of spring before a sharp midweek weather swing arrives. Temperatures are climbing fast, but rain and even snow could return by Wednesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, highs will reach around 66°F today under sunny skies. South winds near 14 mph will keep the air mild across Cuyahoga County and surrounding communities including Lakewood, Parma, and Euclid.
Clouds begin increasing later today as moisture moves north into the Ohio Valley. Temperatures stay unusually mild tonight, holding near 52°F, with a chance of scattered showers developing toward morning.
Showers become more common Tuesday across northern Ohio. High temperatures again reach the mid to upper 60s, continuing the early March warm spell along the Lake Erie shoreline.
The atmosphere grows more active Tuesday night into Wednesday as a stronger weather system approaches the Great Lakes. Periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms could develop, bringing between a quarter and half inch of rainfall across the Cleveland metro.
By late Wednesday night, colder air rapidly moves into northeastern Ohio. Rain may mix with and change to wet snow, especially after temperatures fall toward 31°F.
Drivers along I-90, I-71, and I-480 should watch for slick patches on bridges and elevated roadways. Wet pavement combined with falling temperatures can create quick icing in heavier bursts of snow.
Conditions improve slightly Thursday as scattered snow showers taper off and partial sunshine returns. However, colder air will keep temperatures near 40°F, a sharp change from the early week warmth.
Another system could bring rain and snow again by Friday, keeping late-winter weather active across northern Ohio.
Spring break travel is increasing across the region, so drivers heading across Ohio and Pennsylvania should stay alert for quick weather changes through midweek.
