Pittsburgh, PA – Drivers across western Pennsylvania should prepare for potentially slick roads late Monday night as a weather system moves into the region, bringing a brief period of wintry precipitation before transitioning to rain by Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, a disturbance is forecast to arrive Monday night into early Tuesday, with cold air already in place overnight. This setup could allow precipitation to begin as a wintry mix or light snow, especially in areas north of Pittsburgh, before warmer air changes it to all rain.

Forecast models show the highest chances for wintry precipitation between late Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, with probabilities increasing overnight. Cities including Clarion, Dubois, Franklin, Indiana, and New Castle may see the most noticeable impacts, while Pittsburgh itself could see brief wintry mixing before rain takes over.

While significant snow accumulation is not currently expected, even light snow or freezing rain could create slippery conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, particularly during the early morning commute. Rain chances increase Tuesday morning and continue into the afternoon, helping to wash away lingering wintry conditions.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor forecast updates closely, as small temperature changes could shift precipitation types and impacts. Motorists traveling late Monday night or early Tuesday should allow extra time and use caution.
