Ohio–Pennsylvania – Prolonged lake effect snow is expected to continue across northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania through Thursday morning, with significant accumulations and dangerously cold wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a weak clipper system is moving through the region, producing widespread 1 to 3 inches of snow. Behind the system, persistent lake effect snow will intensify, particularly in the primary snowbelt.

Forecast totals show 8 to 12 inches of additional snow in northeast Ohio and 8 to 15 inches in northwest Pennsylvania, with locally higher amounts possible where lake effect bands remain stationary. The highest accumulations are expected in Ashtabula and Lake counties in Ohio, and Erie and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania.

Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for the core snowbelt areas, while Winter Weather Advisories extend into surrounding counties, including portions of the Cleveland and Akron metropolitan areas.

Travel conditions may deteriorate rapidly, especially along Interstate 90, where heavy snow bands could cause sudden reductions in visibility and snow-covered roadways. Secondary roads may become hazardous during overnight and early morning hours.

Cold air behind the system will keep temperatures below average through the end of the week. Wind chills late Wednesday night into Thursday morning are forecast to fall into the low single digits and near zero, with a few locations dipping below zero.

Residents are urged to use caution when traveling, dress for extreme cold, and stay updated with the latest National Weather Service alerts.
