Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Winter Storm Watch for areas along and inland from Lake Erie, warning of heavy lake-effect snow and dangerous travel conditions from Thursday morning through Friday evening.
The alert covers Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties in Ohio as well as Erie and Crawford Counties in northwest Pennsylvania. Forecasters warn that snow totals could exceed 8 inches, with localized amounts over one foot possible in persistent snow bands. Winds up to 45 mph may also lead to blowing snow, downed tree limbs, and isolated power outages.
The storm is expected to intensify Thursday afternoon and evening as cold air flows over Lake Erie, producing heavy snow squalls capable of reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile. Officials warn of whiteout conditions and treacherous Thanksgiving travel, particularly along I-90, Route 322, and U.S. 20.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Those who must be on the road should pack winter emergency kits, including blankets, food, and water, in case of delays or road closures.
